Disappointment is a path we have all travelled, one time or another. Things may not always go the way we expect them to, especially in these Covid-19 times. In fact, life may be a series of misgivings which keep on happening time and time again. For instance, you may lose your job, your spouse, your house or even encounter financial difficulty all in a span of a few months. This can be rather disheartening and may prompt an individual to question the purpose of life.
For that reason, 'how to get out of the rut,' is a vital step in determining the proper way to handle distress. When everything seems to be bleak, reassure yourself by doing the following:
Remember who you are
It is in times of sorrow that an individual is truly tested. Remembering who you are in these particular times will assist you in remaining grounded, and prevent you from falling down into the abyss of depression. Remind yourself of all you have been through and how each time a storm came, you emerged a victor. Remind yourself of your strengths and attributes and how well you do particular tasks.
Positivity
Maintaining a positive mindset will help you take each day as it comes, and slowly change your entire outlook on life. Sure, you lost your best friend, or your boss just sent you a termination letter. All is not lost. You are still able and breathing, right? That is the first step to realizing the power you hold; you are still alive. You will find another job, and you will meet rent on time. The right mindset will take you further than chance ever will. As hard as it is, wish for the best and be grateful for the little things. As Ann Brashares says, “Your problem isn’t the problem; it’s your attitude about the problem.”
Plan
Planning helps greatly in establishing resolve. Therefore, this is the time to plan your next move. It may be a simple or elaborate plan, get busy. Planning keeps one occupied and hopeful for the future, since it provides a game plan for new exciting projects. Also, you get to have fun doing it. So, get that notebook and start scribbling!
Pick yourself up and carry on
This may be hard to achieve at first, but start with daily tasks like cleaning your house, baking your favorite pastry or even binge watching that TV show you had always wanted to start but never found the time. Move. This will keep you from stagnating in the same spot and prevent you from harboring feelings of self-pity. You can also start physical fitness exercises at home or start an online master class. Doing an activity gives the courage to face the future with new gusto, and open the chance for new capabilities.
This too shall pass
As the old adage goes, nothing lasts forever. So trust and believe that the sun will shine again. Every problem paves way for definite blessings and this is just a bump on the road.
